About Louie:
Louie is a loving, confident little Shih Tzu mix who came into rescue after being abandoned at a shelter with another small dog. He arrived scared and matted, but once he realized he was safe, his personality came right out.
Louie absolutely loves toys, especially stuffed animals, and he is rarely seen around the house without one in his mouth. He carries them from room to room like little treasures. He also wants to be included in whatever his people are doing, whether that means snuggling on the couch, riding on a motorcycle, heading out on the lake in a kayak, or just wandering around the house with his latest stuffed friend.
Why Louie Belongs in the Puppy Bowl:
Louie has come a long way from the scared, matted dog who first came into rescue. Now he’s confident, adventurous, affectionate, and almost always carrying a toy. The PAP Rescue House
What started with supplies packed into a storage unit has grown into the heart of Paws Across Pittsburgh.
As our foster-based rescue grew, so did the number of animals coming into our care, along with the food, crates, bedding, medical supplies, and everything else needed to support them. Eventually, we outgrew that little storage space and were fortunate enough to find a large building that could become something much more.
Today, everyone knows it simply as “the Rescue House.” It serves as the central gathering place and home base for our foster-based rescue.
Every Saturday, the Rescue House comes alive. Foster families stop in to pick up food, crates, medications, and other supplies while everyone waits for one of the best moments of the week — the arrival of a busload of new beginnings. Dogs and puppies arrive from shelters and other situations where they needed a second chance, and their foster families are there waiting to welcome them.
For many of these animals, the Rescue House is the first stop in a completely new chapter. They may arrive frightened, tired, confused, or unsure of what comes next. Before long, they are heading out the door with a foster family who will give them a safe place to land while they wait for their forever home.
Over time, the Rescue House has also become a reflection of the people and animals who make Paws Across Pittsburgh what it is. A local artist generously donated beautiful murals that help make the space feel warm, welcoming, and uniquely ours. One of the most meaningful areas is our Rainbow Bridge Memorial Wall, where we honor and remember beloved animals who were part of our rescue family but could not stay with us forever.
The Rescue House is also where we hold events, prepare for transports, distribute supplies, bring volunteers and foster families together, celebrate adoptions, welcome new arrivals, and support the everyday work that keeps the rescue moving.
