To-Do List for Your New Pet

There's a few things you need to do once you bring your new pet home.  We've put together a list to help you out.

  • Read "Two Week Shut Down":  Please read this article and give your new dog time to adjust to prevent problems down the road!  Click here to open PDF file.

  • Vet Appt:  Take your new pet to the vet within 14 days of adoption (30 days for an adult dog)


  • Microchip Registration:  Follow the instructions included in the adoption packet to register your name and address to your dog's microchip.

  • Pet Insurance:  Included with your adoption is a 30-day trial of PetFirst Pet Health Insurance. It's complimentary and could save you a lot of money if anything would come up in the first month.  You must call to activate it - 855-710-PETS(7387)  Click here for more information.

  • Training:  Research a local dog training center. If you are unable to attend obedience classes, check out our Training section to get tips and how-to's on training your dog at home.
